I wouldn't think that would be a problem, then. Neither the bridgehead function nor WINS are particularly demanding in an enterprise that size.

We have about 3000 users. The Exchange servers where they want to put WINS don't have any mailboxes on them. They just transfer messages (routing group bridgeheads) -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Exchange Discussions <[email protected]> Sent: Tue Jun 13 19:03:07 2006 Subject: RE: running WINS on Exchange server Depends on the size of your enterprise, the size of your mail stores, and how beefy the server(s) are. The WINS database doesn't take that much space, but, depending on how much name registration is going on and how frequently, they can be pretty busy. If you're talking about a 10,000 node network with 5,000 mailboxes, then I'd say WINS should be on a separate box. Even a PC with Server 2003 loaded on it would be better than sharing it with Exchange, IMHO. At the least, I'd try to put the WINS database on a separate physical array from the mail stores. Personally, I don't think Exchange plays well with others - especially other databases - so I don't run anything else on my Exchange servers. But in small organizations, they both run just fine on SBS servers. So they are talking about putting WINS on the same servers that are running Exchange 2003. Should I be concerned? _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/read/?forum=exchange To subscribe: http://e-newsletters.internet.com/discussionlists.html/ To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe via postal mail, please contact us at: Jupitermedia Corp.
