We need to downgrade a Front-end Exchange 2003 server from Enterprise
version to Standard version:
Here is what we are thinking of doing (Front-end Exch 2003 is OAExc1 while
backend is OAExc2):
We will let OAExc2 take over the 2 roles that OAExc1 is playing -- SMTP
gateway to Internet and OWA. To do this we will
(1) In Exchange system Manager, replace OAExc1 with OAExc2 in Local
Bridgeheads section of Internet Mail SMTP connector.
(2) In Exchange system Manager, under Protocols, we will configure HTTP
settings of OAEXC2 just like OAExc1.
(3) In IIS server of OAEXC2, we will configure the default web site just
like in OAExc1 and install the same SSL certificate.
(4) In firewall, we will point to IP address of OAEXC2 instead of to the IP
address of OAEXC1, for OWA and for SMTP traffic.
We will shutdown the OAExc1 to ensure that everything is normal with only
OAExc2 running. Then we can uninstall and reinstall exchange 2003 on OAExc1
and give it back its 2 roles.
O' You Exchange Gurus, please let us know if these steps are correct and
complete. Thanks.
