bypass attachment size?

Just ran across this product, Pando, that claims to get around attachment 
size limits, and that claims to be able to transfer files up to 1Gb, and 
apparently strictly by email, not FTP.
Does anybody know how they do this?  Can they really bust through the doors 
of our servers?
