Well, MY thought was to 1) have disaster recovery of the AD, and 2) speed authentication of the remote office that's on a WAN connected via VPN. :-)

Larger sites would do it to split the load and improve recovery options. One of the main reasons for having SBS, I thought, was to save on hardware & licensing. Otherwise you just do regular AD. But the SBS box needs to hold all of the FSMO roles. We've got dozens of clients with SBS boxes and extra DCs. No problems there. ________________________________ From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] on behalf of Albert Duro Sent: Thu 10/26/2006 11:03 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Re: Semi-OT: SBS2003 and DCs I seem to recall that SBS does not allow other domain controllers. The only way is to upgrade to 2003 domain: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555073 But you should really be putting this question to the excellent SBS list where Susan Bradly presides. Sorry, can't find the URL ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Aldrich" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Exchange Discussions" <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, October 26, 2006 6:27 AM Subject: Semi-OT: SBS2003 and DCs Would you guys recommend that someone running SBS2003 also have a secondary DC? It would make sense to me to have that happen, just in case the server blows up (already happened once.) However, I'm worried that we would have the same problem -- we wouldn't be able to use the same local domain name if we did that. SBS2003 gave us an error when reinstalling that the domain name was already in use. I realize this is an Exchange list, but since SBS2003 includes Exchange, I thought I'd ask here. :-) Thanks John _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/read/?forum=exchange To subscribe: http://e-newsletters.internet.com/discussionlists.html/ To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe via postal mail, please contact us at: Jupitermedia Corp.
