Well, MY thought was to 1) have disaster recovery of the AD, and 2)
speed authentication of the remote office that's on a WAN connected via
VPN. :-)

Unless it is a large enough site to justify more than one additional (In
which case you wouldn't be using SBS) it probably won't be worth it
since you can't move the fmso roles. Larger sites would do it to split
the load and improve recovery options.

I can understand having 1 extra DC as a spare like John inquiring about,
But what would be the point of having extra DCs?
One of the main reasons for having SBS, I thought, was to save on
hardware & licensing. Otherwise you just do regular AD.

You can have as many DCs as you want in an SBS environment. But the SBS
box needs to hold all of the FSMO roles. We've got dozens of clients
with SBS boxes and extra DCs. No problems there.

I seem to recall that SBS does not allow other domain controllers. The
only way is to upgrade to 2003 domain:

But you should really be putting this question to the excellent SBS list
where Susan Bradly presides. Sorry, can't find the URL

Would you guys recommend that someone running SBS2003 also have a
secondary DC? It would make sense to me to have that happen, just in
case the server blows up (already happened once.) However, I'm worried
that we would have the same problem -- we wouldn't be able to use the
same local domain name if we did that. SBS2003 gave us an error when
reinstalling that the domain name was already in use.

I realize this is an Exchange list, but since SBS2003 includes Exchange,
I thought I'd ask here. :-) Thanks John
