HI folks,
One branch of our company, which had its own email domain all along, is
being sold. They will have their own Exch 2K3 server in a new forest.
During transition, we will have two MX records for this domain with 1st
priority pointing to the new Exch server and 2nd priority to the old Exch
server. SMTP service of new Exch won't be started till all mailboxes have
been moved there.
After the mailboxes of that domain are gone from the old server, it may
still receive emails for that domain (due to caching of MX record etc.) and
we want to forward them to the new Exch. (Such forwarding was so easy in
Exch 5.5!) Our plan is to create a new SMTP connector on old server, with
lower cost, for just this domain and set it to send all emails to smart host
pointing to new Exchange IP.
Will this work? In other words, if a recipient policy of Exch2K3 is setup to
receive email for a domain, can all the email be simply forwarded somewhere
else if a SMTP connector is setup for that? Won't the recipient policy look
for some local mailboxes with that domain specified?
Thanks for all your suggestions and help.
Jay
