Schedule a script to shutdown and restart exchange on a regular basis

What is your network infrastructure.
What are the age and specs of your PCs and Server.
What is your network utilisation like
What sort of time does it take to open up a 5MB file (say word or excel)
from a file share
What happens if you turn off the AV on server and desktop and open the
5MB attachemnt

How long is a piece of string?

Your director is possibly not providing the right solution...

ROFLMAO

Well, I'm not going to go there. But, now I have to admit having to do
a "DOH!." When I replied to Howard's message I completely forgot to add
that Event Log shows this warning every once in a while:

"The virtual memory necessary to run your Exchange server is fragmented
in such a way that performance may be affected. It is highly recommended
that you restart all Exchange services to correct this issue."

1) Your director is an idiot.

2) Never, use defrag software on an exchange server.

3) Your director is an idiot.

4) There are many, many reasons why you might experience "latency".
You'll need to do some proper analysis to determine where the
performance may be suffering.

5) Your director is an idiot.

Sometimes when someone clicks on an email to open it, there is some
latency. The director said that when he emails an attachment >5 meg, he
says it'll hang (but this is not an everyday occurrence).

What makes you think it isn't as speedy as it is designed to be? What
"performance" problems have you noticed?

We're running Exchange 2000 on a W2K server. My director pointed me to
PerfectDisk by Raxco as a possible tool to "speed up" Exchange response.
I was wondering if anyone is using this product and can let me know if
it's worthwhile to look into it.
As I noted, E2K STD with program files on C, logs on D and mailbox store
on E (attached to SAN drive) and about 150 mailboxes.. I don't think
defrag is an issue as much as we're running anti-virus and anti-spam on
the same server.
