Since your server is dead, just go to the section titled: "Remove the Exchange 2003 server from Active Directory" It's as simple as using ADSI Edit to remove the server (simple as in right-click, delete). I had to do this on a deleted Exchange 5.5 server that just wouldn't go away after 2 months.
