Thank you, that should do it.

I believe that you can. You associate forms with folders, or you load them
into the Organizational Forms Library, and I don't believe that either of
those work any differently in Exchange 2007. Here's a reference for
creating an OFL in Exchange 2007: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933358

Thank you, Ed, for the clarification. That is a relief -- the docs spoke of
additional PF hierarchies as being for 'application development' -- that's
where I got the idea that it might be about custom forms.

BUT, does this mean that I'll be able to carry my custom forms into 07?

The databases I referred to are what I created and that are accessed/edited
with the custom forms.

Non-MAPI folder trees are additional public folder hierarchies that you
can
add in Exchange 2003 but can't use with Outlook, rendering them
essentially
useless. Outlook can use only one public folder hierarchy, generally the
first one that is created when Exchange is first installed, and that is
known as the MAPI public folder hierarchy. You have to use OWA to gain
access to the non-MAPI hierarchies.

Custom forms are something else, and I'm not sure what you're referring to
regarding databases.

When running the 07 Readiness Wizard in Exchange Best Practices Analyzer,
it
says that "non-MAPI public folder trees are present in the Exchange
organization. These custom application trees are not supported in Exchange
Server 2007"

I assume that it's talking about custom forms/databases, right?

I'm rather fond of my forms, and I don't want to give them up. MS
suggests
two ways to keep them. I'm not too keen on either of them, so I came up
with a couple of other ideas, which are also problematical. I'd
appreciate
any feedback or alternatives you might have on these four options. (The
first two are from MS)

1 -- Move the non-Mapi folder trees to a Sharepoint Portal. -- I'm neither
willing nor able to run Sharepoint in the near future, if ever. And, I
have
no idea whether the forms will work in there.

2 -- Maintain the data on Exchange 03 server -- would prevent me from
upgrading to a pure 07 mode, and requires running two servers instead of
one

3 -- Running Exch 03 on a one-machine separate forest, running only PFs.
A
modification of No.2, this would keep the production environment as pure
07,
but I can see all kinds of complications with trusts, directory sync,
access
permissions, etc.

4 -- Translate the databases and forms to Access -- this is probably the
most practical and doable for me. Disadvantages: a lot of time and work;
no seamless accessibility from Outlook
