Im getting a quote from dell for spare (backups)

Of the raid key, raid , raid battery , raid mem and the motherboard-

If its reasonable I may just get them to keep on hand- as that seems to be
the most difficult components to find

It's difficult to get small clients to upgrade if there is no pressing
need. I have Doctor Offices with never more than 8-10 users running on
mirrored or raid drives that will never exceed capacity.

Consider the new SATA II drives and dual core make the replacement
cheaper, bigger and faster.

Subject: OT: EOL hardware use

How many out there - continue to use hardware that's out of warranty?

My Exchange server (pe 2600) is no longer covered by dell- its I think
about
7 years old-

And my NAS device as well-

My exchange is all mirrored so in that sense I'm a bit comfortable ,
however
raid controller is another issue if that went out I guess I would have
to
scramble -
I hate to retire the hardware as it has been good to me- and based on
perfom
counters it does the job- and quite well I might add-

dual 933
1 gig ram
6 scsi drives

My NAS also is redundant in that it's a raid5 and it uses ide drives , I
actually upgraded the disks from the 4 40 gig to 4 80 gig drives- but
again
the box is out of warranty and dell will not renew based on EOL

As many of you know I'm at a non-profit so its not easy to just pick up
the
phone a order new 5k dollar NAS or 8k server-

Does anyone have any thoughts/comments etc..
