The deny permission on List Contents prevents the expansion using the plus sign in Outlook. Once you've done Exchange Tasks/Hide Membership, you can't change security once you apply the Hide Membership. This is because the Exchange task changes the order security permissions are applied so that Exchange can still expand the membership list and send to the members.

James, I tried this, and it worked. One question (and I'm just asking, not questioning your solution at all!): What does the specific Deny permission buy you? Reason I ask is, I'd like our Help Desk to do this, and I get a bit queasy with those folks mucking about in the Security tab, if simply doing the Exchange Tasks/ Hide Membership thing will do it. -- Larry Wahlers Concordia Technologies The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod MailTo:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Business Phone: (314) 996-1876 > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On > Behalf Of Knoch Jr., James W > Sent: Thursday, November 15, 2007 10:43 AM > To: Exchange Discussions > Subject: RE: Hide group memberships? > > This question popped up here the other day and this is what I > figured out you can do: > > Prior to using Exchange Tasks to "Hide Membership", go to the > Security tab -> Advanced on the group and set List Contents > permissions for Authenticated Users to Deny.
