Moving from 2003 to 2007 is a lot easier than going from 5.5 to 2003.
There are some big changes, but nothing like the introduction of Active
Directory.

I'm definitely with Ed on this one. I would strongly recommend using
Exchange 2007 and SCR for your DR as it meets your requirement of being
able to restore within 24 hours and has no additional licensing cost.
Plus, it has been vigorously tested by Microsoft and others and you can
get support from Microsoft or any Exchange group such as this one.

I would recommend trying it out first and if it doesn't meet your needs
they look for alternatives.

I agree, Ed. But, our upgrade to E2K7SP1 is six to eight months away,
and the powers that be want an Exchange DR solution in place in the next
2 or 3 months.

Which begs the question: Is the 3-day MS#3938 course (Update Skills from
MS Exchange 2000 to 2007) enough to get me going on the E2K7 upgrade? I
remember having a week or two of classes to get from 5.5 to 2003.
