It's not fishy. It's probably a Sender-Policy-Framework (SPF) record (http://www.openspf.org/) or a Domain Keys Identified Mail record (http://dkim.org/). Both of these technologies use txt records in DNS to help verify authenticity of messages.
So while your 'properly configured email servers' will likely have no problem communicating SMTP with Yahoo, they may drop the messages that are FROM you but sent AS you BY Convio before they get to a mailbox, unless you provide the mechanism for them to verify the message by SPF or DKIM. So you probably want to add that DNS entry. Bottom line 2 properly configured email servers should not have problems communicating with each other. This requires proper MX records, reverse dns records etc, to all match perfectly with your domain, ips, hostnames etc. Personally I use Spamhaus, IMF, and Trendmicro and no large domains like yahoo or aol have problems emailing my domain, nor do I have problems emailing those domains. Anyway I have a lot of knowledge on DNS if you need help with something. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Holstrom, Don Sent: Tuesday, May 20, 2008 3:42 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: I don't know enough about DNS But I believe Convio (a database-driven website and e-mailer) is asking me to add a line to our DNS so that e-mails sent by them with our address get through spam filtration. AFAIK it's some sort of domain key so yahoo e-mail gets through. Is there any harm in this, are any of you using this? A very long line of text. And others may follow for AOL and such. _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/read/?forum=exchange To subscribe: http://e-newsletters.internet.com/discussionlists.html/ To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] t.com Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe via postal mail, please contact us at: Jupitermedia Corp.
