That is correct. A recipient policy defined for the domain is the mechanism for 
receiving and routing mail in Exchange 2000 and later. That aliasing mechanism 
was deprecated after 5.5.

Chris, you may be right about that.  When you say "that setting does
not have an equivalent outside of code", do you mean that there is no
setting that can be implemented in the ESM?
