Marketing and Real Estate folks. Media and CAD files. *sigh* From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Micheal Espinola Jr Sent: Thursday, December 19, 2013 8:44 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Exchange] Quick straw poll: Email size limits
Well this is the thing - its really based on what your own mail-flow is. If you want reasons why to limit, you need to look at your own infrastructure and traffic - and gauge how it is hurting your environment (if at all). Example: For one past employer, it was OK to set it at 20 GB for the occasional large file... that was until we got a new director of marketing, who started to righteously abuse our loose limitations. I sampled traffic and monitored the queues to see and show how it was hurting other users abilities to communicate in a timely manner (along with other email details and faux pas) - and present those findings at a staff, and then managerial meeting. Marketing got instructions and additional tools/services that not only stopped the from hurting the rest of the company, but improved their own effectiveness in the process. I find it helpful to turn it into an educational and positive experience for as many people as possible. -- Espi On Thu, Dec 19, 2013 at 1:06 AM, Nicholas Turner <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> wrote: You are preaching to the converted, I imagine it's a battle that we all have to have with the users almost on a constant basis! Sometimes it's good to get validation from one's peers though! And how much of a backup it causes to other outbound messages? Do you ever consider what you are doing to other people mail servers similarly? Do the right thing - dont use email as a file transfer mechanism. -- Espi On Wed, Dec 18, 2013 at 1:26 AM, Nicholas Turner <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> wrote: We're having the monthly battle with users about how big their attachments can be and I was wondering what you guys have set for the sending limits in your organisations. Out limits are currently set to 20mb internal and external (of course in real terms equating to about 15mb with mime encoding) I just want to send some info to users about current standards in sizing. I still consider 20mb to be quite generous myself!
