I normally bill based on my day rate. Day rate would be anything 4+ hours; max 8 hours. I only charge for actual work I did not research time. If I have to look something up during working that won't take much time then that's fine.
If any vendor support is needed to continue with the project, I consult with the client first before pursuing. If they require me to call the vendor then I charge for that. i.e. $1,000 a day; project took 10 days with at least 4 hour days = 10k for small items that take around 30 minutes I try and put them together and charge a day rate for them if there are enough. I usually come up with this before the project though. P.S. What did they use to find you?
