When the emails are deleted they move to the deleted items folder - and it is from that location that they will be returned.
I had this with a client last week - we recovered the emails but not the structure. She then got her people (Gov big IT department) to see what they could do and after 4 hours they agreed with me. If you directly delete a folder then that folder is the location you can recover to - but that is never any use as clients are concerned. NOT Once she hit recover they went (I'm guessing) to the inbox and the folder "client" was no longer there- Now she says "how can I determine which emails were in the "Client" folder", as all messages were recovered to the inbox. is there anyway to accomplish this? Yes I have a full backup as of 4 am today, but hoping not to have to go that route. Exchange 2013 TIA
