I am sold. I have forwarded this thread to the manager. He is off in Montana
fishing so I don't expect to hear from him :)

Oh yea. Every company I have worked in had at least one CardScan in use.
In fact we just set one up the other day.

Even CLOSE to 90% would be great. As someone pointed out elsewhere, when
you throw in strange fonts and fancy backgrounds, it is going to lose
some accuracy.
As Lori pointed out on the Outlook list, Cardscan does seem to be the
"hands-down" favorite.
I can't believe that there would be this much experience with doing this
type of thing. I never saw it come up on the list so I figured that
either no one was interested in doing it or that it did not work.
Thanks again,

Cardscan is probably the best around.
The major issue with any of these types of products is in the OCR. Since
virtually every biz card has different formatting, different fonts, and
different quality of print, it is quite difficult to get anything above
about 90% accuracy. Therefore 10 out of every 100 letters or numbers
will be incorrect. The admin who scans the cards essentially needs to
visually check every entry for correctness, but it is still a lot faster
than manually imputing. Works great with Outlook

Smart A$$!! Duh, I sent that before I really thought about it :) Thanks
for the quick reply.
How well does it work with Outlook? I see from the site that it works
with Outlook98 and 2000. I tried to download the demo, but I got an
"incompatible format" error.
I know that in the past that scanning in information was pretty
frustrating. Is it an I, i, l or a 1? How good is it at figuring things
out? And, how well does it get the right information into the correct
fields? ie: Name, Title, Company, Phone, etc.
This manager won't be back for two weeks and I thought that I would need
the entire time to find something. You guys are amazing.
Thanks again.

Subject: Business card readers.
I have a manager that collects business cards at an alarming rate and
wants to have them all entered into a contacts folder. Has anyone had
any experience with business card readers/scanners and Outlook? I have
been asked to find out whether these things actually work. In the past I
have found that scanning and OCR was more of an art than a science.
Any other suggestions would be most welcome as well.
