Are the Exchange 2000 and Exchange 5.5 server in the same Exchange 5.5 site?
I suspect not given that replicas solved your problem.

I used to have a mailbox on 5.5, then I moved the box to an ex2000 box in
the same site.
When on 5.5, I could see f/b info for users on both 5.5 and 2000, now I
can't see any, and I keep getting popups about the public folder not being
available. The f/b public folder is on one of the 5.5 servers.
Should there be a replica of it on the 2000 box, or is that not necessary?
