whups, my bad, forgot about that limitation of 4.0.

I'd get lots of good backups and run an upgrade to 5.5, then use the move
server method to the new 5.5 box.

Well on #2 where I run into a problem is the fact that 4.0 only supports one
server in the site. So I guess I need to find a copy of Exchange 4.0
Enterprise? The connector he speaks of, would that be on the same CD or
where would I find that?

1) yes.
2) Yes. See the Ed Crowley Server Move Method in the FAQ.

Subject: Another Exchange 4.0 to 5.5 question

Well here goes another. I have been putting off a migration of 4.0 to 5.5
for a long time now. I am somewhat prepared though, I've got a new server
that I will be installing 5.5 on and moving everything frome the old server,
that seems like the easy part once I get the old server up to 5.5.

Question #1 Will the exchange clients from 4.0 work with 5.5?

Question# 2 Is there a way to simple move everything from the old 4.0
server to the new 5.5 server I will be installing? Reason I ask this, is
because the old 4.0 server will be taken out of commission as soon as
humanly possible and I am actually quite afraid to upgrade it. The database
conversion from 4.0 to 5.5 will take about 2 hours....and this server has a
bad habit of bugchecking and rebooting at random. With my luck it would be
during the conversion:) I know I can move priv and pub.edb over but my
understanding is that the directory is platform dependant and I will be
changing platforms.

Current server is an DEC Alphaserver 400, with 384 meg RAM, RAID 1 for OS,
RAID 5 for logs, RAID 5 for store

New server is Poweredge 2500 w/933mhz, 1gig RAM, same HDD config.

Let me know if I provided all the details necessary.
