I used to get this when my clients were running W95/98. I got round it by
specifying the IP address of the server instead of the name and also found
that the box didn't have the WINS address specified (they were static at the
time). Since moving to NT on the desktop and a good DHCP config I have yet
to experience it. I just put it down to the crap IP stack on the 95/98
boxes.

Any similarities?

Subject: Some users cannot connect to server

*** WARNING - THIS MESSAGE ORIGINATES FROM THE INTERNET ***

Good afternoon,

OUTLOOK 98 Exchange 5.5 SP3

We have 2 Exchange servers both configured the same way. We had a problem
today where several people (10) could not sign into one of the servers.
There were either getting that the server couldn't be found or that the
login credentials were incorrect. Hundreds of users were able to sign on
without problems. Of the people that could not log on 8 of them had good
passwords and the passwords were not expired nor had they been changed
recently.
These people could sign onto the OWA without any problems using the used and
password that they knew.

All services were running and there was nothing in the MTA queues.

We bounced the server that was having problems and all was well.

Does anyone have a clue where we should start on this one?

Regards,

Mike Mitchell
