Sounds like your recipient update service (RUS) is not kicking in. I'd
check that the Recipient Policies have not been edited and that they are
applying to all mailboxes.

I have the recipient agreements as separate one-way agreements and I have
confirmed ADC working fine by making test changes and re-replicating to
test. I am thinking the cause is the X400 address of the E2k account as I
can move a 5.5 mailbox to E2k and send email from that mailbox (to 5.5
recipients) successfully.

I have also noticed that if I create a new mailbox on the E2k server and
then check the account, there are no addresses under the email addresses
tab. I thought these would be automatically created based on the default
recipient policy? I applied the default recipient policy but still no
addresses appear - the addresses are in there for the mailbox which was
moved to E2k.

agreement running ok?

It is happening with all 5.5 mailboxes. Thanks for the link - I'll check it
out.

Hi Duane,

Is this happening for a particular X5.5 mailbox only?

We didn't have the exact same error, but when X2K users could not send to
X5.5 users I solve the problem by moving the 5.5 user to 2K and then back.
Not exactly sure why that helped but I guess it was something to do with the
legacyExchageDN attribute.
