You can still send/receive SMTP mail externally even if you remove the
SMTP address, since you'll get an encapsulated address, as posted in the
original message in this thread. It looks to me like it's a simple case
of the recipient with the directory name of "KOLERT" not being
replicated to the Exchange site that contains the IMS connected to the
Internet.

Conversation: x400 addressing
Subject: RE: x400 addressing
Exchange uses x.400 addresses for internal messaging. Period. That is
why if you remove all SMTP addresses from a mailbox, they can still send
and receive mail internally. SMTP addresses are used for receiving mail
from outside the company. No, you can't make Exchange use the SMTP
addresses internally, because that's not the way it was designed to
work. Do you think having the x.400 addresses is in some way causing a
problem? I guarantee they are not. But if you remove them, you will
cause a problem. Plus, you don't seem to understand that the IMS is ONLY
used for sending/receiving Internet-bound mail. It still doesn't have a
thing to do with internal mail. Internally, mail is sent via one of
several methods. 1. The servers are all in the same site - no
additional connector is needed. 2. The servers are in different sites.
Either a x.400 connector is required (usually recommended for slower
connections or inconsistent
connections) or a Site connector is required. Site connectors need/like
lots of bandwidth. Any other questions?

Okay,
I understand, but is there a way to let Exchange use the smtp addressing
instead of the x400 adresses?
