This behavior is by design, and as far as I know, there is no way around it.
You can either:
a) Set someone up to have Outlook prompt for their profile on startup, and
choose the shared mailbox periodically to check for items marked private.
2) Set up a rule to reject items marked private (not sure if this works or
not-- haven't tried it)
iii) Set up an auto-reply rule telling people their e-mail won't be answered
if it is marked private.
We use a combination of a) and iii) here.

Subject: Assigning Delegate Permissions Using DLs
Bit of a weird one that I have given up on and call on the knowledge of
the list...
Scenario:
Win2K, Outlook 2000, Exchange 5.5 Sp4.
I have a shared mailbox that has got the default NT account as a Win2K
group. The mailbox is added as a secondary mailbox for each of the users'
mail profiles. The problem is that private items can not be viewed if the
relevant delegate permission is applied to a distribution list instead of
directly to the user. KB articles imply that this should work or is this
behaviour by design?
Any ideas?
Thanks
Christian
