I would suggest you use your ISP's SMTP as a smart host, remenber you
are on dial-up (usually slower than LAN) so why try handle the
additional resolving/retrying if your ISP can handle this for you.

I set all my dial-up mail servers to do this.

Subject: IMC and DNS for outbound mail

Hello

I am using Windows NT Server 4.0/sp6a, with Exchange Server 5.5/sp4. I
have noticed on several installations (most of them with dial-up
connection to the ISP) that if I configure outbound mail to use DNS, it
fails to resolve the host name of the destination domains. In this case,
I am forced to forward all mail to the ISP's SMTP server. Is this a
normal behavior? Is there a workaround to avoid it?

Best Regards
Nizar El-Assaad
