If you're using Compaq hardware, you can simply relocate the disks to the new server and power it up [1], provided you have enough space to plug the disks in and you are content with the amount of disk space you have.
But, probably a clean burn with relocating connectors is a much better idea. S. [1] Before anybody jumps on this, it works! I had a dedicated SMTP gateway server, as a matter of fact, that was having hardware problems. I simply pulled the drives out, put them in a completely different architecture Compaq server (from a Proliant 5000 to Proliant 3000), and powered it up. It worked without any problems at all. It was even a different RAID controller (2P vs. 2DH). Gotta love the Compaq SMART controllers. The controller read the array information from the disks and voila! After we replaced the motherboard on the 5000, we simply moved the disks back and boom. Back in business. -----Original Message----- From: Olivier de Heer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, October 02, 2001 3:26 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: New connector server Dear All, We have a dedicated connector server (NT4 SP4, Ex5.5 SP2, 1 IMS, 41 X-400 Connectors & 38 Directory Replication Connectors, no Mailboxes) that needs to be replaced by a new one. Does anybody have a "best practice" or any tips how to do this. Do we have to rehome all the connectors or is there an easier way? Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Olivier _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
