Sometimes, if my curiosity is killing me, I'll copy the exe to a disk and then put it on a test machine that I have that's not hooked up to the network (not even a NIC in it) and fire it off there. If it does any damage, there's nothing lost but now you have the knowledge without having to do the recovery.
