OK, I really can't tell all the time if it's valid. In actuality the
server does have more information than me. I've been told by user's for
whom I've received these NDR's that the email as it appears in the
message are correct, so...

I didn't telnet to check, perhaps I'm just not that savvy yet...
pointers are welcome :)

Yes, I'm speaking as "ME, Administrator" or postmaster. I'm sure I've
got the system configured to send these to me so I can have a chance to
fix'em, but I'm not sure what to do about them. When I fix the address
(assuming I know what it should be) and send it on, it looks as though
it's from me, and I also cannot send as the originator.

Another thing is that these messages often don't say who sent them, so I
can't tell the user to fix it.

I'd rather that I (postmaster) didn't get them at all and that they go
back to the user.

Thanks
Fred

Exchange server does not have a spel cheker, but it does kick back
undeliverable messages which sometimes offer suggestions. can you copy
and
paste the error? Do you swear that the email address is correct?

---What do I do with these messages if the email address is correct?
did you telnet directly to the mailhost of the domain in question and
check
the specific error after the rcpt to: command. Those error messages are
much more detailed (usually).
---How do I make it so they don't appear to be from me?
Are you referring to "me" as in "System Administrator"?

Subject: NDR... Send Again?

Hi All,

I keep getting email messages from our Exchange Server offering me a
chance to correct a miss-typed email address.

Sometimes, however, the system gives me the following error:

e-mail system was unable to deliver the message, but did not report a
specific reason. Check the address and try again. If it still fails,
contact your system administrator.

What do I do with these messages if the email address is correct and how
do I make it so they don't appear to be from me?

Thanks
Fred

PS I'd tried to send this twice earlier today, but I had NDR expanded
in the subject line to "Non Delivery Report" and the list server
rejected it! Imagine that.
