Ahhh....

Well, SBS is a bundle of software. It contains NT 4.0, Exchange 5.5
Standard Edition, Probably SQL 6.5 Standard, SMS 2.0, and I think Proxy
server 2.0. I would suggest that you buy some books on the particular
software you use so that you understand what is going on. While these are
all separate components, MS has bundled them together into one big package.

A major pain in the arse if you ask me...

Uhhh.... "sort of exchange thing on this server"

What do you mean sort of? Not used to it? What are you used to seeing on
SBS?

Hi William,
There is a sort of exchange thing on this server but it's nothing what I'm
used to... It's Small Business Server...

By default Exchange5.5 will keep tracking logs for seven days, I believe.
You can change the tracking log retention in the general tab of the system
attendant properties applet in Exchange administrator.

Message tracking had to be enabled. It is not on by default.

See this page for the abbreviated, expurgated version.

And here:
http://www.microsoft.com/Exchange/en/55/help/default.asp?url=/Exchange/e
n/55
/help/documents/server/XMT04027.HTM
http://www.microsoft.com/Exchange/en/55/help/default.asp?url=/Exchange/e
n/55
/help/documents/server/XMT04027.HTM

You can purge these files, but I'd leave the current day.

I stumbled on these files which seem to track all incoming and outgoing
mails on a SBS. How/where are they generated, and is it necessary?

Kim
