I've been using Lyris MailShield for a while with very few issues (one major one after an upgrade about a year ago, but quickly resolved). Interoperability has not been an issue. The worst thing about such products is that in order to stop the most spam, you will inadvertently stop a lot of legitimate mail. If you enable fewer anti-spam measures to allow the legitimate stuff through, you end up with a bunch of spam. Maintaining the balance has proven to be difficult, and a losing battle as the spammers catch on to the blocking techniques.
