I haven't had a problem writing a VFP program that uses Outlook automation to send emails to everyone in an address book even when the !000 and other hoax prevention methods were used. If I can do it, I'm sure a virus writer can do it.
Get the Outlook security update from MS - that will at least cause Outlook to warn a user if Outlook is being used to programmatically send mail. There are ways around that too, and I'm not sure if current virii have circumvented it, but at least it is somewhat effective. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Exchange-List Sent: Friday, November 30, 2001 10:18 AM To: ExchangeList@swynk Subject: Quick question Stupid question of the day. I have a user who has been given instructions to place a !000 address in her address book to stop all worm's from spreading in via her outlook client. Beyond the fact that I told her this was insane, and oh by the way we have not been infected by a worm virus since we got the "I Love You" (great way to get A/V funds), she now has her department convinced that this is the way to go and wants to have this put in all their address books. I know that this won't hurt anything, however now they want it added to the GAL and I am saying no, no, no!!!!! They want proof this won't work. I said prove it will work, they need more grease in their wheels, so now I am stuck proving it won't work. I can't find this on any of the web sites and am hoping that someone might know of a good link.
