There isn't any such thing as a custom recipient in E2K.  In Active
Directory (not E2K), you have mail-enabled contacts, mail-enabled users, and
mailbox-enabled users.  I think you're asking when one would use a contact
versus a user.  The answer would be when you need to authenticate, choose a
user.

There are two ways to make a custom recipient in E2K. Create a contact and
give it an email address or create a user with a email address. You then
forward to the user or contact. That is my understanding. When is one
preferable over the other.
