Unless someone has access to the console, or can otherwise somehow reach the drives and directories containing the Exchange files, there is no reason for any of them to be missing, so I still don't get the point.
Oh, well, mine is not to question why... What you're talking about is the first step of full documentation. Practically by definition due to the presence of other options the best route is to document your own installation and update it as needs occur.
