Ah, but in the story Doyle has the hound covered with paint that glows in
the dark, rather dowdy wouldn't you say?  But then, it was effective
dowdiness in the story.

Quality sarcasm, like quality haiku, or even quality dowdiness is often
great entertainment.  It adds to the page turning (screen flipping?  or
maybe just flippin') aspect of the milieu.

A good jab now and then about, say someone having trouble with the quality
of the results produced by low quality tools can be useful irony, if it is
done well (the jab that is), and it is done with a smile.

Has anyone on his list every taken themselves too seriously or forgotten to
smile while sticking it to some poor slob whose been saddled with a
collection of tools foisted upon them by a useless PHB?  Oh certainly not.



Dowdy dogs wail on
scurrilous neighbors rake muck
the very "high" heels laugh
