Have you also done the reg hack on the client that allows you to utilize the
full scope of deleted items retention?  i.e. if the items were per chance
hard-deleted (shift + delete) then they bypass the deleted items container.
There is a registry hack that you can add - search Technet for
dumpsteralwayson.  It allows you to use "recover deleted items" for every
folder.

Has anyone ever seen where users lost email in certain folders in
specific date range, they are saying they haven't delete the messages.
We have deleted retentation time set to 15 days but non of these
messages show up.   There are saying that it is a system problem.   But
in our event logs which get monitored daily shows no problems with the
information store.   Can certain mailboxes become corrupt within a
store.   

The server is running Windows 2000 SP2 Exchange 2000 SP1, we have one
store informational store on this server.
