Scanmail doesn't touch anything but Exchange mail data. If you were
referring to a file-based AV product, well I'd agree that it could do
just about anything.

I think it's a red herring.

Supposedly, having some server-based antivirus programs can cause
browsing not to function properly. I don't know but I'm going to shut
down my mail servers in the wee hours of the am & start the services
slowly to see what happens.

I just know I'm sick of this & need it working.

Ask them why Scanmail is the issue. That makes absolutely no sense to
me.

You're having a browsing problem, so maybe you have more than one master
browser on the network. Start examining the event logs for Browser
service errors.

Subject: Browsing an AD Win2K Domain + Scanmail for E2k

Hi folks,

Let me say up front that I wasn't sure whether to post to both groups
but the issue involves Win2k & Exchange servers. So, please pardon me
if it offends anyone.

My team recently rebuilt our 2 multi-master, NT4 into a single AD Win2k
domain. We were able to browse when we were in test mode....even with 1
E2K server running. Once we added the latest version of Trend Micro's
Scanmail and E-manager to the mix but we actually didn't notice it at
first. Browsing thru AD's Users & Computers works fine. However, when
you use the "old" browse entire network & look at it from an NT/Win9x
point of view, the only machines that are listed are DHCP clients
(servers or workstations) and the 2 E2K (native mode, member
servers).....not even the PDC Emulater/master browser.

I have been working this issue w/Trend & MS for more than a week & it's
still not resolved. MS states that a Scanmail is the issue but that the
problem hasn't been made public yet. Trend doesn't seem to have a clue.
Does anyone else have any clues?

Other info:

*       Two physical sites.
* An AD DC that serves as the GC (global catalog) in both sites
*       A WINs server in each site....both member servers..replicating
to each other using AD. Wins has been check, re-checked & triple
checked.
* A DNS server in each site...both member servers....
* Domain is native mode although we had the same problem in mixed
mode.
*       All servers are running SP2 including E2K w/SP2.
* The PDC doesn't see all the servers, so no clients will either.

The only time I can remember that we could browse all the servers is
when my Exchange servers weren't online.

Any help is appreciated.
