I'd prefer to see it on a separate box. It makes troubleshooting easier and if your app is going to use MAPI running it on a client box as opposed to on the server itself resolves some serious MAPI version errors. Write it as tight as you can and a selling point is that it runs just fine on yesterday's not-quite-fully-depreciated hardware.
