Subject: Delayed Email--Possible Reasons?

Hi Guys,

A user received an email this morning (timed at 3am) that had a sent
date (date viewable when he opened it up) of last Sunday at 9am or so.
What are the possibilities for this?

1. Got "stuck in the Internet" for some reason as the sending mailserver
could not contact ours, and finally did this morning on a retry.

2. Got "stuck in the IMS queue" and for some reason popped out this
morning. At neither of these times was there anything going on with our
Exchange Server (5.5, Sp4 on NT4), with the exception of a possible
backup last night (I'm not sure if it was hitting the IS at the time).

3. Something else?

#1 is pretty unlikely, we trade emails back & forth with this particular
domain a lot. #2 is possible, but I'd like to know why.

Thanks

-Warren
