Excellent. Thanks for the reply Serdar.

I think I'm ok and have read that Q article, but will reread to be sure.

Thanks again,

The first server in the site is simply assigned some default roles. If
you've reassigned these roles properly, you shouldn't have any issues when
moving to E2K.

The install logs don't mean anything. You probably need to go through the
1st server removal article and make sure that all roles that are assumed by
the first server in site is assigned to some server that is currently
running. The article also has links to other articles in case you've
removed the 1st server withour reassigning the roles.

Finally, here's a link to the golden article.

Subject: Removing 1st server in the site

Problem:
Roughly 8 months ago, we transitioned all our Exchange servers from Win NT
4.0, SP6a / Ex5.5, SP1 to Win2k, SP2 / Ex5.5, SP4+. We physically
transitioned the three mailbox servers and the bridgehead to new hardware,
with new server names and removed the old servers from the organization.
However, at that time, I didn't know about the need to document which server
was the first one added to the site.

Question:
1.) How is this going to impact us when we move from our current structure
to a Win2k/AD/E2K with new domain name and organization name, at some point
in the near term?
2.) Is there any way at this point and time to figure out which one was the
first existing server in the site? Would looking at the install logs on
each server be proof enough of the first server in the site?

TIA,

Jim Blunt
