Thanks to all those that replied...I managed to recover it from a restore of the IS..i had to take the following steps, due to the missing mailboxes.. export directory to csv from Main server, amend server details in csv import the directory run the consistency checker create an instance of the PF on the recovery sever...voila...one message retrieved..
