Thanks Missy. I wasn't sure if connections to the backend server would be
aggregated, making it more efficient or not.

I'd put the FE server with the BE server. Connections for mail will, in the
end, be across the WAN either way...

Subject: Design Question

Good afternoon to all of you Exchange 2K goddesses and gods: (The ladies
have to be first, you know)

A design question to put to you all; I'm building an outline for a
new Exchange 2K installation for our company, and would like to know if
there is any advantage to putting a front end server on the remote side of a
wan link as apposed to the same side as the Exchange server.

Example:

A remote site uses IMAP4 to connect to the new Exchange
server. The bandwidth between the remote site and the central Exchange
server is limited and fixed. Is there an advantage to physically locating a
front end server (to manage IMAP4 connections) in the remote office as
opposed to locating it in the same location as the Exchange server?

TIA.
