Add the new IP to the adapter as a secondary IP address. Make the DNS change and wait for/force propogation. Ping the name and see what IP comes back. If it's the new one you're good to go. Give it a day and then remove the old IP from the adapter. If things go kablooey put it back and start troubleshooting.
