Umm. That message was REALLY a joke. There isn't really no physical limit to # of servers within a site. There could be other limiting factors such as placing all servers in a well connected network etc.
Your original question is still one that only you can answer. I have sites with one server, six servers, 12 servers etc. It ALL depends on what your needs are. How about you describe your environment and your needs and what YOU think the appropriate number of servers are. Then we can either tell you that you did a good job or you were crazy.
