Paul, getting a "template" for those policies is quite difficult since each organisation is quite different, and things like mail retention policies are often dictated by Governmental regulations / internal politics etc.
Public folder policy for example can be influenced by things such as: Server Storage Space (may affect public folder numbers + max content size + data retention + replicas) Site Connectivity (may affect replicas, replication, data retention) Existing DMS (Document Management Systems) and integration with Expected Content (shared calenders, corporate policy documents etc) Heirarchy based on job function ? functional area ? geographic area ? Placement of replicas and replication intervals (influenced by content storage) Use of internally developed forms + applications Delegation of Public Folder management to line areas / divisions Existing Archiving Policy Government requirements relating to data retention Data recovery issues (influences several things, including replication + data retention) and thats just some of the issues. If there is an existing Exchange Design developed or in production, a number of these "policy" issues will be dictated by the design. Since you are migrating from a notes environment, examine the pre-existing polices in that environment (if they exist). The actual mechanics of the policy would only change slightly in an Exchange implementation, and if they were written properly in the first place, should need very little modification. Q's... Hello All, During my stay at my previous employer administrating a global Exch5.5 Org around the world I learned a lot about what I didn't like as far as policy/procedure/implementation of an Exchange Implementation and this list was a great help overcoming some of the issues of integrating acquired companies systems into our own... Now I have changed jobs and have a clean slate with a new E2K implementation with users being migrated from disparate Lotus Notes/CCMail/Exch5.5 environment to a single environment. I have the duty to write and help implement policies on various topics including PublicFolder usage & heirarchy, PST and mail retention policies, smtp naming standards and such. I've been checking the FAQ and archives of this list but would appreciate URLs of any other resources I can tap to help me write these policies. I hate to reinvent the wheel since I'm sure most of this stuff is out there somewhere. Are there also any good books on this topic? __________________________________ Paul E.
