So, if I understand correctly: For Ex.5.5 to AD
1. Install ADC from E2K sp2 CD. ( no connection agreements - yet)
2. Run ForestPrep
3. Run DomainPrep
4. Establish connection agreements (two way) exchange - active directory
5. After populating AD with objects from ex5.5 server - I then can install
my
first E2K system - join current Ex.5.5 site and begin to move mailbox's,
etc.etc.

You do that AFTER ForestPrep/DomainPrep. I just thought you wanted to
know whether ADC or ForestPrep/DomainPrep came first. The reason I
mentioned no connection agreements was to avoid confusion at that point
- and that obviously didn't work! ;-)

custom recipents and Dist list to update the AD?

Read many doc's that say you need to run forestprep & domainprep prior
to installing the ADC for your 1st E2K system.
Do we need to run forest & domainprep prior to installing the ADC to
expand the Active Directory for Ex5.5 system?
