Andrew, 

I think that you should limit the scope of the smtp connector in routing
group A to that routing group and the same for the smtp connector in
routing group B (see connector scope under the smtp address space tab).

The problem here is that routing group C will not be able to use the smtp
connector on routing group A.

To get over this you might like to try this.
Set the virtual smtp server on routing group C to forward all email to a
smart host and enter the address of the server that hosts the 1st smtp
connector.

There may be a better option but that is what springs to mind for now.

There may be a good reason why you have routing group A and C but if there
isn't this problem would not exist.
