Saw this today on TechRepublic: Low RAM on Exchange? Store.exe is the culprit
The available bytes counter in file servers and many application servers' Performance Monitor is useful for monitoring and measuring memory usage. If you look at this counter on a system running Exchange 5.5 or greater, though, you'll find that the available bytes are always very low. If you don't have experience with applications that behave this way, you might believe that your server needs more RAM. In fact, no matter how much RAM you install, the available bytes remain low. Store.exe is the culprit here; it's grabbing all the RAM. This isn't cause for concern; it's just part of the Exchange architecture. Beginning with Exchange 5.5, Microsoft designed Store.exe to take all available RAM. When you run Performance Optimizer, by default, it assumes that all of the memory in the system is for Exchange and sets up memory buffers, etc., accordingly. This improves Exchange's performance. It's possible to limit the amount of memory allotted to Exchange using Performance Optimizer; however, that's not a good idea unless you've been advised to do so in order to accommodate a special set of circumstances. Since Exchange dynamically releases memory as needed to the OS and other applications, it's usually best to let it manage memory as it's designed to do -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Dale Geoffrey Edwards Sent: Thursday, June 27, 2002 12:41 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Memory usage of store.exe high Anti-virus program maybe? With a gig of RAM, I've got 8 MB available. What causes this? Is there a way to prevent this? Is this normal for 5.5 Karon Miller _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
