Ex2k sp2 on Win2k native mode - one exchange server

I just removed my last 5.5 server. In its final days it was only sending
out mail with the IMC. Now that I removed the 5.5 and the IMC my mail
is going out via the Default SMTP virtual server with no Routing
Group/connectors.
I'm having trouble sending to some sites now that were not a problem a
week ago, MSN being one of them. The NDR error is 5.5.0. I did read
that there is some trouble with ex2k using EHLO by default and to try
switching to HELO. I see how to do that with a SMTP connector, but not
with out one. Do I need to add a SMTP connector or is there a better way
to fix this?
