Hi Ed,

Not rights issues as other servers can run setups/upgrades.

The problem was that the server was not resolving the short-name for the
top-level GC. Reason unknown as all servers have the same DNS settings
and other servers resolve schema master happily. Added the short-name to
the local Hosts file to workaround.

Subject: Ex2k Sp3 Install Failing on 2nd Server!

Hi,

I'm getting the basic error from the install wizard:

Prerequisites for Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration
Services failed:

The component "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services"
cannot be assigned the action "Update" because:
 - You must be at least an Exchange Full Administrator at the
Administrative Group level to run update. You must use an account that
has been granted the Exchange Full Administrator role on the current
administrative group, or a higher-level role, using the Exchange
Administrative Delegation Wizard.
 - Setup is unable to access the Windows 2000 Active Directory
- Failed to contact the Schema Master server for this Active Directory
forest.

This is very odd as

I have already updated 1 server with no problems!

Account does have Full Admin right for the entire org
AD and replication appears to be working fine
Schema master is visible

Details:

EX2k Sp2 on W2k SP2. 3 x EX2k servers in Admin group, front-end OWA
server successfully upgraded. 2 x GC's on same subnet, no DNS errors,
nothing in logs

Tried:

Update with services EX2k and IIS all stopped.
Reboot and re-try
Add W2k SP3 and re-try

Any ideas?
