The Exchange provisioning whitepaper at www.microsoft.com/isn and I think one article by David Sengupta (same source as last time) go into some detail in setting up restricted address book views in E2K.
Without the ability to view an address list in which their mailbox appeared, a user would have to use the Exchange DN of their mailbox to create their profile (or at least that was the case in 5.5 and I think it still holds true) which is not a terribly user friendly string to enter into the mailbox name field in Outlook. So, basically all users need to be able to see some address list (of which they are a member) in order to easily resolve their name in the GAL... it could potentially be an address list of one user. In general, one would want to automate the creation of an address list for a group (company for example) as part of the provisioning process.
