The problem is with Norton Antivirus for Exchange 2.xxx

If you delete from the server (such as in OWA) everything is just fine. If you delete
a bunch of items with attachments from a client outlook dies. Something about the
timeout for deletion is not long enough for norton to grab the attachment and check it
for virus infection.

Upgrade your norton to the new, improved Symantec AntiVirus and Filtering for Exchange
and the problem will go away. Of course, so will a lot of money!

My first thought in these matters is to always disable , and if necessary,
remove the AV and see if that alleviates the problem.
I dont use Norton myself, so I am not familiar with its particular distinct
issues, but there are many on the list who are.
